BRIIT ON TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL
Summary
Hong Kong has to date installed over 300 traffic signals as part of their compro- hensive traffic management measures. Until recently GEC supplied practically all equipment but this market is now under strong pressure from other firms, Philips in particular. CEC won the contract in 1974 for the West Kowloon computer system against world wide competition and this is working well. There are proposals for a computer controlled system on Hong Kong Island but the timing of this will depend on the decision on the Light Rail System.
Line to Take
The Department, through the Overseas Unit, has kept in close touch with developfhents. A mention of the expertise of British firms at home and abroad would be useful.
