I seem to remember writing to South Pacific Department last year about requests for action here arising from legislation in Britain, a point picked up by the Inspectors, but have been unable to find a copy of the letter.

The Inspectors said in their report that "The need for legislative tidiness frequently faces the Governor with requests from London for action that arises from national legislation. This can be time consuming
and is usually accompanied by voluminous documentation, It would help all concerned at Wellington and Auckland if these requests and the supporting documentation could be kept to a minimum compatible with the requirements of the legislation". In order that we may formally report, as required, that the Inspectors' recommend- ations have been acted upon, could you acknowledge for the record that you have taken cognisance of this recommendation.

I realise that this is not a matter that concerns South Pacific Department alone (if at all) but would be grateful for any efforts that can be made to reduce these requests,

We have of course made regular appeals in the past to be spared the chore of adding to Pitcairn's legislation references to British legislation that is most unlikely to have any effect on Pitcairn,
