PROTECTION OF TRADING INTERESTS ACT 1980

1. You may recall that we spoke a few weeks ago about the extension to dependent territories of the Protection of Trading Interests Act, 1980.

2. Although this is primarily the responsibility of Miss Farrell in our Hong Kong and General Department, I am writing with particular reference to Bermuda who, you will know, have asked for the extension of the Shipping Contracts and Commercial Document Act 1964. Now that the new Act has received Royal Assent and has been published, do you see any objection to our preparing a draft Order for Bermuda extending the new Act to them? If you have none, we would propose that the draft Order for Bermuda be used as the basis for Orders for any other dependent territory that wishes to have the Act extended to them and that a draft Order be sent together with a consultation letter to all dependent territories in the near future at the same time as we send a draft to Bermuda.

3. I should be grateful for your early reactions.
