Members will be asked to advise:

(a) whether those recommendations in the First Report which are essentially general guidelines for the Standing Commission's review of the salary and structure of individual grades should be accepted. This group of recommendations is set out in paragraph 3. Any recommendations on the salary and structure of individual grades based on the se guidelines will be subject to the provision of the necessary funds by the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council; and

(b) whether those recommendations in the First Report

which are more specific and are not linked to the review of individual grades should be agreed in principle, subject to more detailed examination and to the provision of the necessary funds by the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council.

(The Secretary for the Civil Service (Mr Martin ROWLANDS) and the Deputy Secretary for the Civil Service (Mr Hamish MACLEOD) will attend before the Council for the discussion of this item).
