BRITISH TRADE COMMISSION, HONG KONG -
CHINA TRADE UNIT.
The case for a genuine China Trade Section within the
British Trade Commission was set out in my letter ADM 414/3 of
12 March to Unwin in Personnel Policy Department.
forward the following draft "job description" :-
I put
(a) the provision of information and advice on the Chinese
economy and trading techniques to visiting British
businessmen and missions;
(b)
the preparation of reports for Peking and London on
Hong Kong/China trading links;
(c)
the compilation of comprehensive commercial records on
Hong Kong firms involved in trading with China;
(d)

reporting on economic developments in Guangdong
Province (this would need to be co-ordinated with the
appropriate departments of the Hong Kong Government);
(e) the construction of a duplicate (i.e. to Peking)
information bank within the Trade Commission on the
Chinese economy and their methods of doing business;
(f)
primary responsibility for the provision of commercial
services and reporting on the Canton Fairs.
