To all manufacturers)
Dear Sirs,
20th September, 1979.
Yesterday (Wednesday), Urban Councillor Mrs. Elsie Elliott met representatives of our district to discuss matters in relation to our rent increase. Mrs. Elliott promised to give us support in our protest against the rent increase as well as to assist us in arranging a meeting between us and the Housing Department. She reiterated that our representatives should ask all the manufacturers not to pay the new rent and persist in our grounds until the matter is settled satisfactorily.
It is hereby urged that all manufacturers in our district should, for their own interests and the safeguard of their properties, refuse to pay the new rent as such an action is our trump card against the rent increase. Whether our struggle will be successful depends very much on our firm will.
We would like to point out that no matter how long the period for negotiations will be, the Housing Department has no grounds under the law to take vicious measures against us.
Please be persistent and do not yield to intimidations as we have sufficient grounds and means to support our protest against the rent increase.
CW/csp/28-9-1979
Yours faithfully,
Lee Pak, (illegible),
Au Chor,
Sung Ka-hung, Kwok Cheung,
Lui Man-yin, Ng Chun-bong, Chan Shum. (Representatives that were present)
