Powers and functions of the new grade of Senior Immigration Assistant

The amendment to the definition of "immigration assistant" to include the new grade of "senior immigration assistant" will have the effect of enabling Senior Immigration Assistants to exercise and perform the powers and functions (already being exercised and performed by Immigration Assistants) under the Immigration Ordinance (Chapter 115) noted below:-

Power or function

to require a person being examined under section 4(1) to declare and

produce any documents relevant for

the purposes of the examination;

to give directions for preventing any person from evading examination under section 4(1)

to place a person on board any ship or aircraft in which he is to be removed from Hong Kong under section 18;

to take a person in custody to the place at which he is to be removed by land under section 18;

to place any person in respect of whom directions have been given under section 25(2) on board any ship or aircraft in which he is to be removed;

to take a person in respect of whom a removal order or a deportation order

is in force in custody to the place

at which he is to be removed by land;
