HONG KONG: REQUEST FOR MILITARY REINFORCEMENT

I attach a draft reply to Mr Dromgoole's letter of 16 March to Mr Murray. You said that you would wish to contest Mr Dromgoole's view that the temporary detachment of the Brunei Battalion to Hong Kong "is not an option which is open to us". I should be grateful if you would suggest some suitable wording which might be inserted after paragraph 7 of the draft.

I should also be grateful if you would look at paragraph 4 which contains a brief summary of what we have done to persuade the Vietnamese to mend their ways.
