237 bay crossers and 1,408 sea crossers (1,150 North Vietnam). Most of them were between 16-25 years of age. All (except 1,160 North Vietnam) were processed at Ta Ku Ling. Consequently 1,095 were repatriated during the month, 3 were allowed to stay and the remaining 1,205 (1,160 North Vietnam) were awaiting a decision. In addition, 33 illegal immigrants arrested in November were repatriated to China in December. The highest number of illegal immigrants arrested in any one day during the month (excluding North Vietnamese cases) was 88 on 29 December.

2 local residents were prosecuted for aiding and abetting 1 illegal immigrant from China. One was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment suspended for 2 years and the other
was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.

26 bodies, believed to be those of illegal immigrants drowned whilst attempting entry, were recovered from the sea during the month. (3 in the eastern sector, 11 in the western sector and 12 in the northern sector).

The cumulative total of illegal immigrants arrested by or surrendered to the Police and the Army since January 1968 is now 41, 290. The yearly totals are as follows:-
