NATIONALITY BILL

I am attaching the drafts of a submission and proposed reply to the Home Office's letter of 5 July

on the Nationality Bill. The main objective at this stage is to delay the submission of a draft Bill to the Home Affairs Committee of the Cabinet on 17 July

and to propose instead that a meeting be held at Assistant Under-Secretary level to discuss the

oustanding differences between the Foreign and

Commonwealth Office and the Home Office. Interested

departments will be notified in due course when the

meeting is to take place.
