Dear Yu. Gillett

SELECT COMMITTEE ON RACE RELATIONS AND IMMIGRATION

1. I enclose a copy of the Select Committee's first Report which was agreed on 22 March. It has now been overtaken by events as the Committee ceased to exist when Parliament was dissolved on 7 April.

2. The Committee have been unable to complete their Report on the effect of the United Kingdom's membership of the EEC on rece relations and immigration, and written memoranda, as well as their minutes of proceedings, will remain unpublished.

3. Whether the Committee will be re-established in their existing (or a new) form in the new Parliament remains to be seen. It will be open to any new Committee to decide whether or not to continue where the old Committee left off.

The Select Committee were very grateful for all the help given by our overseas posts and regret very much that shortage of time prevented them from completing their work.
