1. I attach the English texts of news stories relating to refugees which have been broadcast in the BBC Vietnamese Language Service for the week beginning 31 December 1978.
lr Breen, Head of rar Eastern Service/BBC, has not provided transcripts of bulletins broadcast in their Chinese Language Service because, as he explained to me at some length, all Cantonese news and one of their daily Mandarin bulletins are relayed by Radio Hong Kong as part of its normal domestic service.
2. As with the BBC transcripts which we telegraphed you about on 29 December 1978 (telegram Nos 976 and 977), this material seems fairly innocuous. Mr Breen will be supplying a further batch at the end of this week, but plainly feels that the exercise is of limited value. I am inclined to agree and, unless you consider these transcripts are useful, I shall ask Mr Breen to discontinue the arrangement at the end of the month.
