5. After notice has been given under paragraph 5 of the

Confidential Memorandum of Understanding on the Trunk Route,

the competent authorities of the United Kingdom and the

competent authorities of China will jointly review the

traffic on the route between Feking and Hong Kong. They

will then make appropriate arrangements for the airline

designated by China to continue and the airline designated

by the United Kingdom under paragraph 2 above to start to

operate services between Peking and Hong Kong when the

notice referred to above expires. The capacity and frequency

of such services will be decided by the two sides jointly.

Simultaneously with the review referred to in paragraph 6

of the Confidential Memorandum of Understanding on the Trunk

Route, the competent authorities of the two sides will jointly

review the traffic on the regional routes covered by this

Memorandum and decide on any modifications and additions that

they consider desirable with respect to the provisional

arrangements in this Memorandum.

7. Where appropriate the Agreement will be understood as

applying to the matters covered by this Memorandum subject to

the understanding that references to "territory" in the

Agreement will in no way prejudice the position of either

Government with regard to the status of Hong Kong.

8. The understandings set out in this Memorandum will come
