CONFIDENTIAL MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
TRUNK ROUTE
At meetings held from 18 May to 26 July 1979, in Peking
to discuss the Agreement between the Government of the
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and
the Government of the People's Republic of China relating
to Civil Air Transport, initialled on 26 July 1979, at Peking (hereinafter referred to as "the Agreement") delegations
representing the respective governments reached the following
understandings:
1. The airline designated by the United Kingdom under
Article 3 of the Agreement may for the time being serve
Hong Kong as an additional point on the route set out in
section 1 of the Route Schedule annexed to the Agreement.
In the operation of the agreed services through Hong Kong
on the said route the designated airline of the United Kingdom
may not take up at Hong Kong traffic which terminates at
Peking nor put down at Hong Kong traffic which originates
in Peking unless such traffic is carried to or from Hong Kong by its agreed services and stops over at Hong Kong. However
the said designated airline may carry between Hong Kong and
Peking its company staff members and their families and
their baggage as well as aircraft stores and spare parts for use in the operation of the agreed services. Such staff
members and their families will not be counted in applying
the seat limitation set out in paragraph 2 below.
