ME MORANDUM FOR EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
Fore shores and Sea Bed Ordinance
(Chapter 127)
REPROVISIONING OF BOATYARDS AT ALDRICH BAY
A
Introduction
The development scheme for Aldrich Bay involves the reclamation of about 9.3 hectares of fore shore and sea bed to provide land for open space, cargo handling areas, boatyard and slipway facilities and a possible route for the Hong Kong Island Eastern Corridor stage II. In addition to providing land for the se facilities, the scheme will improve the environment of the area. The extent of the proposed development area is illustrated on the plan at Annex A.
2
Aldrich Bay has long been a servicing centre for some 700 active fishing boats, which are based in Shaukeiwan and Chai Wan. In order that this servicing function will continue to be provided without interruption, the reclamation has been carried out in carefully phased stages, so that essential services are reprovisioned before they are cleared.

The development of Area A stage 2 phase I includes the provision of a number of sites for boatyards which will be granted by means of a restricted tender to boatyard operators displaced by the Aldrich Bay reclamations. Notification of the proposed grant of leases for two areas of approximately 7, 458 square metres and 1, 254 square metres of fore shore and sea bed at Aldrich Bay respectively, as shown coloured pink on the plan at Annex B, was first published in the Government Gazette on 5th May 1978, in accordance with section 4 of the Fore shores and Sea Bed Ordinance (Chapter 127). During the statutory 2-month period allowed for objections and claims, an objection from the Fishermen's Mutual Aid Association of Hong Kong was received. A copy of the objection letter is at Annex C.
