I have discussed Mr Canavan's Question with Mr McLaren, who now agrees that, if the injunction in paragraph 8 of Hong Kong telegram No 1055 of 25 July (behind Flag A) is to be observed, the last sentence of the draft reply should be

excised.

This seems to me to be the less☛risk; especially

as we hope the whole Sai Lau Kok business will have been cleared up before Mr Canavan is in a position to ask a further probing question.
