This accounts for all the Cantonese output of the Far Eastern service and 1/20 of its Mandarin output.

In addition, RTHK broadcasts a limited number of educational and feature programmes in Cantonese from BBC's "English by Radio".

RTHK cannot estimate the exact audience for these programmes. However it has an overall daily accumulated audience on its Chinese services of between 1.3 and 1.5 million, and a large proportion of this audience would listen to the Cantonese news programmes. For specialist or educational programmes, an audience of up to 50,000 might be expected.

RTHK has not come across any evidence of direct listening of vernucular services on short-wave radio.
