Ladies and Gentlemen

On behalf of my party' I would like to say

how pleased and honoured we are that you can join us

for this dinner before we leave for Hong Kong.

Our visit was at the invitation of Minister

It has taken us to Guangzhou, Peking, Sian,

Li Qiang. Lanzhow and back to Guangzhou.

We also

We wished to gain an impression of the part Hong Kong can play in the four modernisations. believed that if co-operation is to increase to our mutual benefit, it would be helpful to establish personal contact

with Provincial and National leaders.

Our discussions have shown that increased

co-operation by Hong Kong would be welcomed, particularly in industrial and agricultural production and in tourism, and also in the development of road, sea, rail and air communications as they are needed. The private sector in Hong Kong is willing to participate and is particularly well-equipped to do so in many fields. Similarly investment by Chinese Government agencies in Hong Kong is welcome. In mutual co-operation I see increased mutual

benefit.

I have heard of plans that could affect Hong Kong directly, such as those in Shum Chun municipality.
