Shum Chun will gradually become a modern border city, a process- ing centre for exports and a place for tourists. By 1982 revenue from
exports and tourism will be increased by more than three times.
The officials also disclosed this year's agricultural production
plan whereby 217 pig farms will be built, including seven to eight big farms which can rear 1,000 to 10,000 pigs. By 1982, export of pigs is expected to rise by five times.

Another 90 pens will also be built this year for 500,000 to one
million chickens. At present four such farms are in operation already.
And 20,000 acres of land will be allocated for vegetable and fruit growing.
The officials said they welcome Hong Kong industrialists and
businessmen to take up pond and off-shore fishing businesses there.
As for industry, more than 30 joint projects have gone into operation
since last year, and another 20 projects are being negotiated. It is expected
that negotiations for about 100 other projects will be completed this year. It is estimated that by 1982, Shum Chun's revenue from finishing and processing
of imported materials will double its present total industrial production value.
At present, the majority of existing industrial projects are of small scale,
only a few are of larger type, such as a printing factory whose production is
triple that of the Tung Fong Hung Red East' Printing Factory in Canton.
The above projects are on finishing and processing or on the basis of
compensation trade. In future, when the country's taxation structure and
investment legislation are enacted, then joint venture can be arranged.
