In view of the merger of the Commony palth Office
(with which the Colonial Offiop had already been merged) and tho Foreign Ofice, we have recently taken steps here to ensure that the Secretary of State gets the host avaliable advico in making his recommendations As you may to The Queen, about Governors' appointments. perhaps know,» thoro has for myny years bpen a Board of senior officials under the Chairmanship of the Permanent Undor-Bourolary to advise the Secretary pf State on senior appointmonts in the Diplomatic Sprvice. We have's how sob up a similar small Board, but with different mcmiberatedhi.p, bo advino him about Governopships and, as nocasion may ariso, about any other senfor appointments in tho Dopoudont Torritorios. Sunior officials from the Dopondent Torritorios Division of the FC.0. and from the Ministry of Overseas Development serve on this Board under my Chairmanship. In addition the membership includes
