three year term as Governor in June 1979.

November.

2. A General Election is due in Belize around the end of

Mr McEntee, pronounced himself willing to extend his

term as Governor until after this event and his considerable

expertise and local knowledge will obviously be a great help

at this time. Since the Election looks like being unusually

close-run, Mr McEntee has offered to stay on until January or

February if necessary in order to see the new Government

through its first few difficult weeks, and thus leave his

successor with a clean slate.

3.

It is recommended that Mr McEntee's term of office should

be extended until the end of 1979 or to early 1980, the exact

date to depend on the local political circumstances.
