FOLLOW-UP TO THE DTSAB
No
1. I have now spoken to Miss Taylor, POD, about the reference of Mr Hunt's and Mr Hennessy's promotions to the No 1 Board.
Apparently this is due to meet in about two weeks and while
there is no objection to our submitsing to the S of S on the DTSAB's recommendations, nothing should go to No 10 on the appointments of these two until the No 1 Board's
recommendations have been cleared by the S of S.
2. Since there is in any case no need to go to No 10 on the three extensions, I suggest that we revert to the previous practice of submitting only to the S of S in the first instance. Once we have the go-ahead we can then swiftly go to the Pace, via the Private Office on Mr McEntee's
extension, which is now quite urgent, deal with the other
extensions at more leisure and submit to No 10 on the
new appointments as soon as the NO 1 Board has cleared its
side of the business.
3. If we want to cut out one set of submissions we could
put the informal and formal submissions to the Palace to
the Private Office with the draft letter to No 10 for action
on receipt of the PM's approval, rather than do this in two
or even three goes.
4.
Miss Taylor hopes that if reference must be made to the possibility of an extension for Mr Parker it should be done as negatively as possible. It is most unusual for a DS officer to remain beyond 60 and is only done for the most pressing reasons of policy. Approval for such an extension has to be cleared through the Chief Clerk with CSD and with
the Staff Side.
