TRADE SKILLS

Sets up and operates common machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinding machines, shaping machines and drilling machines to produce components to drawings and specifications.

Ability to :-

Set up and operate all commonly used machine tools to required tolerances.

Set up and operate selective special purpose machines.

3. Plan operational sequence of work, and

mark out job prior to machining.

Use and take care of relevant measuring instruments, gauges and standards.

5. Hand grind cutting tools to correct

geometry and make special tools when required.

6. Identify common engineering materials and select materials appropriate to a job.

Select and correctly use lubricants and cutting fluids.

8. Carry out simple maintenance work on

common machine tools.

Use approved mechanical handling and lifting equipment.

Read and interpret drawings and specifications.
