Mr. Mace said Miss So seemed to insist on the minor points. He was not sure of this question. Fe would look into the question and would answer the question later.

Miss So said since Mr. Kace said what the Staff Side asked was only a minor question and they expected only a simple austor from Mr. Mace. br. mace also said that the PI was an independent organisation. Did Mr. Mace mean that the PI was not influenced by anybody?

Mr. Mace answered that was what they thought. The official Side would try to make it clear. There had been may reports by the PIÙ which had caused greater disappointment to the Staff side or the Official Bide. The regular pay revise went on. He thought there had been many relevance to the position just as they had. As far as he was aware, the Staff Side hal always accepted the factual data of the true pay rate without question.

Mios So said referring to the previous question whether there were 27 companies being Garveyed for the Secrctarial Class and Mr. Mace would go back and check before he could give the Staff Side the answer.

Mr. Mace said he was sure that was the position. But he would go back to find out the answer and would answer the Staff Side properly.

Miss So said Mr. Mace had said that the PI was an independent body but referring to what had been said in the previous meeting ha said the FIU conducted the survey in 1975 had been influenced br two things: firstly, the PIU had been given a job comparability by the Civil Service Branch before they went out to conduct the survey on the Secretarial Class. The second thing was that they had been provided with the pay rates by the Civil Service Branch before they went out to conduct the survey.

before.
Mr. Hammond said Mr. Broadbridge did not say the above things It was correct that the description of the job of Stenographers had been given by the PIU before he conducted the survey, otherwise the Official Side had nothing to compare with the private sector. But stressed on the second point the pay rate would only be worked out on A the facts produced by then. If they had no information they could not Co out to compare with other companies.

Mrs. Cheung quoted what Mr. Broadbridge had said from the verbatim minutes which were taken during the meeting held on 20th June, at that time he was speaking in English and the Staff Filo took the result as verbatim and the official Side could refer to Item 26 of the verbatim minutes of that meeting :-

ir. K. Dorelbridge said the important part with the pay rates and the only way the Working Party could make proposals was to take into account the comparable duties. It then gave everyone a complete package to look at. "
