The two tins of ‘Butter Cookies' contained 1.0022 kilos of methyl-amphetamine bound for Japan.

Cannabis and Synthetic Drugs

On 16 January 1978, during a routine search of mv. Gold Star arriving from South Africa and Singapore, Customs and Excise officers found one package containing 0.1618 kilos of cannabis concealed under a wooden box in the shaft tunnel. No arrest was made.

2 On 2 February 1978, Narcotics Bureau officers acting upon information raided luxurious residential premises at 29 Cumberland Road, Kowloon Tong. Inside the premises, which was being used for the manufacture of pharmacutical goods, they seized 2.646 kilos of amphetamine sulphate along with apparatus used in the processing of this substance. The amphetamine sulphate was being put into small sachets to be allegedly exported to Taiwan where it was to be sold as a male sex stimulant. Over 171,000 pre-packed sachets labelled 'MAN DIP' were seized. Of these sachets some 118,000 contained amphetamine sulphate which is a salt of alpha-methylphenethylamine, the rest contained a preparation of yohimbine hydrochloride, this is a salt of an alkaloid of yohimba and as such is controlled as a Part I Poison.

3 Two people were arrested, Ko Chun-pong (7559/2182/6721) and Ko King-to (7559/2417/3325). They were charged with (a) Possession of a Dangerous Drug, and (b) Possession of a Part I Poison. The first defendant pleaded guilty to both charges. He was fined HK$1,000, and HK$500 respectively. No further evidence was offered against the second defendant.

4 On 27 February 1978, Triad Society Section, Hong Kong Island of the Royal Hong Kong Police received information that a quantity of cannabis was being stored in Room 406, Caravelle Hotel, Happy Valley. A raid on the premises revealed 0.3848 kilos of dried cannabis concealed inside a sports bag in a wardrobe. No arrest was made.
