It is also of some surprise that the Hong Kong Preventative Service has not visited Rita to learn about this "documented drug trafficker" named Lewis. Perhaps they consider Rita knows nothing. A representative of H.K.P.S. to testify to that effect would be very persuasive.
Rita Nightingale told me that Lewis never provided her with his contact lephone number, never provided her with his contact address, never took her to meet his family, himself suggested they should marry, himself offered to provide air tickets for the trip to Europe, himself indicated his concern for Rita by providing Yip as escort to Hong Kong with a radio and finally arranged for Yip to meet the expenses of Rita in Bangkok.
Rita confirmed to me her testimony in Court that she did not know Chan.
Prosecution witnesses testified as to a relationship between Rita and Yip which Yip denied.
You will recall that Mr. Duncan emphasised the apparent connection between Chan and Rita at the airport indicating that to him there appeared to have been a conversation between Chan and Yip and Rita in Kai Tak Airport. The documents that I have been able to read do not enable such an opinion to be supported. The only document which draws reference to a meeting between these three at Kai Tak airport is the menorandum from the Commissioner of Customs and Excise. This document refers to Rita Nightingale's conversation with Chan and Yip in the Hong Kong airport departure hall and states that the officers concerned could only recollect vaguely that Chan had made contact with a Caucasian woman and a Chinese man resembling Nightingale and Yip. Such an identification in such loose terms cannot be relied upon. If on the other hand there is merit to the observation and that Chan and Nightingale and Yip were all seen together and to board the same plan then why is it that the name of Yip was owilted from tho Bangkok Lalox. It is noted that the rumo Yip won Juoluded in the tolex to Parin. No doubt, thọ 11,K,P.3. have information as to whether or at Chan and Yip and Rita nat together during the flight and whether or not they ohecked in together.
