Commissioned RMP 1954

He has good reports throughout his service. Served with Gurkha troops 1958-1961.

In Malaya 1969-71 with excellent reports including one from Lt Gen Sir Peter Hunt (later CGS).

Again in Northern Ireland in 1974.

In 1975 he went to Hong Kong as APM until 1977.

His reporting officers included Maj Gen R W L McAlister, Lt Gen Sir Edwin Bramall and Lt Gen Sir John Archer all well known to RHKP.

Sir John Archer described him in December 1976 as: a no nonsense" sort of officer, uncomplicated, smiling, friendly who gets on with his job efficiently and effectively. He would expect no credit if things went especially well but would be the first to take the blame if anything went wrong".

In November 1977 the same senior officer writes:

"He is well respected not only within the Services but also by the Local Police, Government and Allied Services with whom he has constant contact".
