Streets (Alteration) Ordinance (Chapter 130) Junction Road Widening (Tung Tau Tsuen Road to Fu Mei Road)
The present carriageway of Junction Road varies in width from 9 metres to 12 metres, the narrowest section being that between Tung Tau Tsuen Road and Fu Mei Street. A short length of this section south of Lo Fu Ngam Government Primary School is without a footpath on the west side and has been the subject of many complaints concerning pedestrian safety.
2
Through traffic has greatly increased since the completion of the Cornwall Street extension. In addition, the development of the Broadcast Drive area, the widening of Tung Tau Tsuen Road and completion of the Mei Tung housing estate in the vicinity have generated a large volume of local traffic through this road.
3
The existing carriageway of this section of Junction Road was constructed about twenty years ago and was not designed to take the present heavy traffic. The flexible road surface has deteriorated badly and requires frequent maintenance. The existing surface water drainage is also inadequate.
4
To cater for the present traffic and to minimise maintenance costs, the Director of Engineering Development proposes to widen this section of road and to reconstruct the carriageway in concrete.
