$300 per square foot ($3, 229.2/m2) for building land in accordance with the existing policy. Payment of crop compensation, ex-gratia allowance to cultivators and ex-gratia disturbance allowances to pigbreeders will also be necessary.

The clearance will involve both Crown land and private land. A total of 463 temporary structures will have to be cleared affecting some 325 families comprising about 1, 590 persons. Those families found to be eligible for public housing will be offered accommodation in the Fu Shan or Ngau Chi Wan public housing estates, while families ineligible for public housing will be offered space in the Fat Kwong Street temporary housing area. These families may also be eligible for ex-gratia domestic removal allowance of up to $1,000 per family.

Included among the 463 temporary structures referred to in paragraph 5 above are 11 shops and 32 workshops. Ex-gratia allowances estimated to total $350,000 will be paid in respect of -- the eligible undertakings from the Housing Department's compen❤ sation vote under which funds are available.

Recommendation

It is recommended that in order that the construction of the proposed Wong Tai Sin divisional fire station may proceed in accordance with the programme, the lots shown coloured beige hatched black on the plan at Annex should be resumed under the provisions of the Crown Lands Resumption Ordinance.

Advice sought

Honourable Members will be asked to advise, under section 3 of the Crown Lands Resumption Ordinance (Chapter 124), whether resumption of the lots shown coloured beige hatched black on the plan at Annex is necessary for a public purpose, namely construction of the Wong Tai Sin divisional fire station and access roads.
