zery shocking and unreasonable event recently happened in Hong Kong tha, will not only affect education in Hong Kong but also the whole community at large. It is the arbitary closure of the Precious: Blood Golden Jubilee Secondary School.
Perhaps I should start from the beginning. The trouble began when som enchera exposed the misappropriation of funds (about £ 37,000, or Hong Kong $ 300,000) by the principal of the said school. In the process, teachers and students were anxious to see justice done and asked for explanations and clarifications on action being taken to find a solution. However these demands were not kindly taken by authorities concerned. The old principal resigned; an acting principal appointed; a 2-day sit-in by students and teachers ensued; and the teachers were given warnings by the Education Department. It was after nearly a year till the former principal was brought to court and found guilty.(On 22nd, Feb.,1978) In passing sentence, the judge described the affair as a "systematic" and "Lethodical" fraud and a "gross betrayal of trust".
