he was in receipt of such a pension at the 31 March 1973;

at any time after that date he becomes entitled tó such a pension by reason of having been in insurable employment (including in the case of a woman by reason of her husband having been in insurance employment) in Gibraltar which commenced before that daté.

The weekly rate of retirement pension is £12.20 with increases of £6.80- for a wife under 60 and £2.40 for each child to a maximum of 4 children. A retirement pension is payable for life, but if a pensioner who is less than five years over pensionable age takes up employment the pension will be reduced by an ancunt equal to 50% of his weekly earnings in excess of £1.

A married woman or widow over 60 may be entitled to based on the satisfactory employment record of her husband or late husband. The rate of pension in such cases is £6.80 a week for married women, £12.20 for widows.

ELDERLY PERSONS (NON-CONTRIBUTORY) FENSION

46. WHO CAN QUALIFY?

If you are 65 or over and are ordinarily resident in Gibraltar and have been so resident for at least ten years out of the twenty preceding years you may qualify for an Elderly Persons Pension.

If you are in receipt of a pension or allowance under the Social Insurance Ordinance, the Non-Contributory Social Insurance Benefit and Unemployment Insurance Ordinance or any other written law, of any country, including Gibraltar, which provides for the payment of old age pension or benefits of a like nature (other than a pension in respect of service rendered) or Supplementary Benefits your entitlement to an Elderly Persons Pension will depend on the rate of pension or allowance you are receiving.

The standard rate of weekly pension is £5.00.

47. HOW AND WHEN TO CLAIM

If you think you satisfy the foregoing conditions a claim form ́should be obtained from the Department of Labour & Social Security. When completed it should be returned to that Department within three months before reaching 65 or immediately if you are that age. Delay in claiming may result in los8 of pension entitlement, as this cannot be awarded in respect of any period in excess of six months before the date of claim,

48. SOURCE OF FUNDS

The money to pay for this pension comes from the Consolidated Fund and not from contributions.
