Non-contributory invalidity
pension
Non-contributory invalidity pension is primarily for people of working age who have not been able to work for some time, and who do not qualify for full-rate sickness or invalidity benefit because they do not have enough national insurance contributions.
The conditions
The pension is non-contributory. It is payable to people aged at least 16 and under pension age (60 for women; 65 for men) who have been continuously incapable of work for at least 28 weeks provided they satisfy residence con- ditions. Married women claimants must also be unable to perform normal household duties.
Amount payable
The weekly rate is £10.50.
Increases are payable for dependants. The rate may be reduced if
benefits or allowances are payable.
The pension is not taxable.

Pneumoconiosis, byssinosis and miscellaneous diseases benefit scheme
Allowances may be paid to people who are suffering from pneumoconiosis or byssinosis or one of certain other slowly developing diseases due to employment before 5 July 1948, provided that they do not qualify for workmen's compensation or industrial injuries benefit for the same disease. Prescription charges
Medicines and appliances prescribed under the NHS can be obtained without charge by certain groups. They should complete the declaration on the back of the prescription form.
Exemption from payment
The people who can obtain prescriptions without charge are:
children under 16;
men aged 65 or over, and women aged 60 or over; and people holding exemption certificates.
