norm, except in the Philippines where the rate is 125% and in Indonesia where overtime beyond the first hour is paid at 200% of the normal rate.

On public holidays and rest days, overtime is remunerated at a rate of at least 200% of the

normal rate except Korea which applies a flat rate of 150% for all overtime. At 260% the Philippines

has the highest rate for work performed on a public holiday when it falls on a scheduled rest day of the

employee.

Equal remuneration for male and female employees

There is no legislation on the equal remuneration of men and women for work of the same nature, quality and volume in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. In Indonesia, Korea, the Philippines and Thailand, equal remuneration is stipulated in the law. However, in practice in Korea and the Philippines women workers generally receive substantially lower wages (about 25% to 40% less) than their male counterparts.
