Brazil (UK Cat. 7)
The UK suggested that if no action had yet been taken on Category 3, mention of their concern on Category 7 could be added to the outgoing Note Verbale.

Philippines (UK Cats 8 and 17)

The UK said that they were not requesting action this year on either Category 17 or Category 28, but that Category 8 was likely to become a problem. If consultations were to be held in January the point could be left for now. Hofmann (Commission) agreed to let the Philippine Mission know of UK concern. The question of consultations would be broached again at the beginning of January
8. Peru (UK Cat 46)

The UK said they were not calling for action at present on Peru. They were not happy at the suggestion that nothing should be done about Uruguay; if no Community action was proposed they would take regional steps.
9. Taiwan (Community - Cat 73)
Proposed levels for 1979 and agreed by Member States were as follows:-. Community, 1,049,000 pieces;. Germany, 500,000 pieces; France, 25,000 pieces; Italy, 20,000 pieces; Benelux, 350,000 pieces; UK, 150,000 pieces; Ireland, 1,000 pieces; Denmark, 3,000 pieces. The 1979 figures would be increased annually by 4%.
C. Imports from ACP countries, especially Mauritius
10. The UK's problem involved large consignments from ACP countries, particularly Mauritius, with emphasis on Categories,2, 4, 5 and 9. They wanted informal consultations with Mauritius early next year but queried whether it might be better to approach the ACP countries as a whole. While not regarding the overall situation as an emergency, there was, nevertheless, a very serious problem with jerseys; they hoped for action on this front before the end of January. Ireland, Italy, Belgium and Germany said that they too had noticed.

Co(Commission) pointed out that the Commission had recommended expansion of production to the Mauritians some time ago. He said that the time for individual ad hoc arrangements was- past. The Commission would consider the situation and return to it at the beginning of the year. No progress was possible before February when there would be direct contact with Mauritius.
