OPERATIONAL CONCEPT

a. Periods of Tension/Confrontation. The Squadron is required to give support to

the Royal Hong Kong Police (RHKP) throughout accessible Hong Kong waters,

preferably within one hour, in operations involving Public Security and Militia

Vessels (Annex A indicates the Patrol Sectors around Hong Kong). They are

also to deter incursions into Hong Kong waters by those Chu River Estuary

Security Authority gunboats normally patrolling in the area, intervening, if

necessary, to enable the Marine Police to withdraw.

b.

Peacetime

(1) The craft are required to make routine patrols of up to 4 days duration

in Hong Kong waters, acting in support of the RHKP and Army Border Patrols.

(2) The patrol craft are required to provide rapid reaction assistance

to the RHKP in situations which have escalated beyond their capability,

including the pursuit and boarding of vessels suspected of illegal intent.
