1. TITLE: HONG KONG PATROL CRAFT

OBJECT AND BROAD STATEMENT OF THE MAIN FEATURES OF THE SHIP: The ship will
carry out patrols in support of the agreed role of the Royal Navy in Hong Kong.
It is to be of conventional displacement design and simple, robust and relatively
inexpensive construction. It is to have an overt military appearance. A short
range gun and communications/navigation equipments commensurate with the vessel's
specialised role are to be fitted. The vessel will be manned by a mixed comple-
ment of Royal Navy and Locally Entered Personnel, and supported by local naval
and commercial maintenance arrangements. The first craft is to be procured via a design and build contract placed with a UK shipbuilder, following competitive tender action. Contracts for subsequent vessels are to be placed following a separate competitive tender, which is to include suitable Hong Kong ship builders. The overall UPC (including all equipment) is not to exceed £67.
