One other matter concerning the piper. Tony Sowerbuits has trsked Mr Whitelegge, the Commissioner Pol Census and Statistics, to produce come trade figures for us (hitelege agreed we could task him direct when Tony visited in November); a cory letter for you is enclosed. We have not, of course, informed Whitelegge of the nature of the paper although we have indicated that we would pareciate the meteral frirly quickly. Would it be possible for you to reinforce with Whitelegge the urgency of our request:

Peter Briley mentioned that he had received a letter from you and that you were interested in the Soviet-Chin--Vietnam triangle. There is little that we can add on the economic side to the mid figures contained in the paper although we are constantly watching for any snippet that might throw some light on the subject. For you it is interesting that the Vietnamese seem intent on using Hong Kong as an entrepot and source of funds in the style, if not the content, of the Chinese.
