(b) David Wilson mentioned that he might want to arrange a

meal at which I could meet some of the senior NCNA officials. (I used to have regular dealings with Tam Kan when I was last in Hong Kong).

(c) Hugh Cortazzi has suggested that in view of recent

exchanges between the Chinese and Portuguese on the status of Macao I might usefully spend, say, half a day in Macao and call on the Governor. But neither he nor I would want to press that suggestion if the Governor/sees: objection, or if you don't think there will be time.
