ADVICE TO OFFICERS TRAVELLING TO CHINA

16.

Officers who have been given permission to

visit China privately should be informed that:

individual travel arrangements are not

prohibited; however, group travel

arrangements should be used whenever

possible, although groups should not be

made up exclusively of officers and their

families.

they must not accept free or subsidised

travel or accommodation or any other benefits

which may not be accepted under the

Acceptance of Advantages Regulations, CSR

Annex VII;

there may be difficulties over leaving China

and neither HMG nor the Hong Kong Government

may be able to help them when they are in

China;

they may not, without prior approval of

their head of Department, contact any Chinese

official or organisation except for the necessary

purposes connected with their travel arrangements;

unauthorised photography or similar activities

may result in difficulties with the Police or

other organisations; and

they must not give press interviews on their

return to Hong Kong.
