The activities organized were much more acceptable and appealing to Hong Kong people who have always been careful to avoid political entanglements or conflicts. The Exhibition of China's Archaeological Finds was a classical example where the Hong Kong community felt relaxed and uninhibited about attendance because to the average Hong Kong

resident, it was a subject of strong appeal per se, without

political overtones or the embarrass-

ment of being identified as a supporter of Communist interests since it was organized with the full support of the Hong Kong Government and woll attended by the establishment and the elite, as well as practically all strata of Hong Kong society. It was also seen as a welcome manifestation of congenial Poking-Hong Kong relations

now widely accepted as a crucial factor of Hong Kong's continued stability.

The outreaching commercial publicity arising from marketing and business promotion of communist agencies had the effect of blending them into Hong Kong's capitalist economy. Communist papers advertised British and foreign products and merchandise. The theme was business co-operation
