5. Programme Plan on

Medical and Health Services 1977 Review (Second

Review)

Purpose

To update the Programme Plan, to review progress and to recommend changes and new proposals to the Medical Development Advisory Committee (MDAC).

Progress made and present position

It was previously envisaged that MDAC would hold its first quarterly meeting in 1978 in March. For a number of reasons, this has now to be postponed to 18th May 1978, when the following papers will be presented:

(a) A summary paper covering the

discussions and recommendations of the.. earlier meetings and the financial and other implications of the existing services, the approved development programme, and the new projects endorsed in the current review;

(b) Proposals for improving the conditions of

service for Government doctors (an

information paper);

(c) Requirement for a fourth nurses

training school (circulation item); and

(a) Health services for the elderly.

Membership of MDAC which is due to expire in June 1978 is now being reviewed.

Next quarter targets

To hold the first quarterl; meeting on 18th May 1978.

To adapt the summary paper: into an agenda item for the Finance Committee.

To review membership of MDAC for the next year.

6. Review of the

Workmen's Compensation Ordinance

To carry out a comprehensive review of the Ordinance and to make recommendations to rectify any. deficiencies.

The Inter-departmental Working Group has met four times. The subjects discussed include the system used for assessing compensation, the scope of application of the Ordinance, the maxima and minima of compensation payable, and the costs of repair and renewal of prostheses and surgical appliances.

To continue the review.
