2. By identifying those compounds or villages

which, because of their proximity to paved

roads and public transportation routes,

could be reasonably covered by interviewers.

Each compound or village thus available was

designated as a PSU..

In this manner all accessible areas of the

New Territories were made available for

sampling with PSU's roughly equivalent to

the city blocks used as PSU's for strata

D-L.

A sample of PSU's was then selected for further

work.. Fieldworkers visited each one and listed

all households located in the selected town-blocks

and villages/compounds.

From the Master Sample, a sample of 1920 households was then selected.

Interviewers were instructed to visit these households and were success-

ful in 1316 cases. The interviewer began by asking the housewife or

the head of household to list all individuals aged 18 years and over in the
