HOW TO READ THE FIGURES IN THE TABLES
In these tables two types of figure are given. The upper figure is the number of
people in thousands ('000s) and the figure underneath it is a percentage, followed
by a dot (.), based on the total at the top of the column. Thus for example in
Table 1, the top left hand column has these figures:

This means that there are 2,681,000 adults aged 18 and over, in Hong Kong and
these constitute 100%. There are 2,337,000 adults or 87% of all the adults who .
ever heard of Urban Council.
The percentages always read vertically.
