1. Thank you for your letters of 10 and 21 August. I enclose a fresh despatch to replace that of 1974 which, as you suggested in your letter of 11 May may remain on the private file in the Governor's Office.

This despatch has the same effect for you as that dated 19 January 1972 had for your predecessor but it does not have the disadvantage of limiting succession to you personally. The 1972 despatch would not have been very useful had Davis been away at the crucial moment!
