INTER-PARLIAMENTARY UNION (IPU) SPRING MEETING

1.

I attach a copy of a self-explanatory call for briefs from OID. Although CSAD were asked to prepare a brief for Agenda item (iv) on "The continuation of most strenuous efforts towards the complete elimination of colonialism in the world", they have suggested that the subject is more a matter for UND and Rhodesia Department.

2. In the light of your recent exchange of minutes with Mr French about the review of our policy on decolonisation, it has occurred to me that it would be more appropriate for Hong Kong and General Department to lead on item (iv), which will probably need to start with, and concentrate on, decolonisation in the British dependent territories. would then contribute on the UN aspects of the problem, and Rhodesia Department on Rhodesia.

3. If you agree, I should be grateful if you would let

Mr Fabian of OID know of the change in departmental responsibility for this brief.
