1. Kr Parker's term of office in the Falkland Islands is due to finish in December 1979 and he will be 60 that month. We thought this seemed a neat arrangement for him to retire from the Diplomatic Service and his Governorship at the same time. However when he lied on me the other day Mr Parker requested that nothing be done D ut his future until around arch or April. He has thoug ent staying on if the Falkland's want him to but he would,

2. Thatever is personal advantages might be in staying on the decision is not, of course, one for him to make. If he is to continue as Governor for a further term the decision would need to come from our department, South American Tepartment and also, because he is a DS officer, from POD. 1 feel that if it is agreed that he should continue after the age of 60 then the best way would be for him to stay on under DS terms. There is always the problem that if he retires and goes on to local salary that he will meet with the same fate as General Jackson and have his pension abated. I suggest that we do nothing for the time being, but that in a month or so we start the ball rolling by addressing a minute to SAD and POI to say that the time has come to think about the Governorship of the Falkland's after December 1979.
