1.
You are aware that it has been proposed to the Dependent Territories Senior Appointments Board that Mr J C Strong be appointed Governor of the Turks and Caicos Islands,
Mr Strong is due to retire in January 1982 and under normal circumstances this would be his last job. However, I agree that to send Mr Strong to this very difficult job for the last 3 years of his service might be unjust. Accordingly, I agree that if Mr Strong's nomination is approved he may be told that the Governorship of the Cayman Islands is becoming vacant towards the end of 1980 and if by then he is finding the Turks and Caicos job too difficult or unpleasant, HKGD would be prepared to submit his name for transfer to the Cayman Islands as Governor for the final period.
2.
It will probably be necessary to seek an extension for Mir Strong beyond the age of 60 in order to give him a useful run in the Caymans. It will be for POD to make whatever arrangements are necessary therein.
