Sir
1. I am directed by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs to inform you, on behalf of the Government of Hong Kong, that you have been selected for appointment on agreement to the service of that Government as an Administrative Officer for a period of 2 years in the first instance. The appointment would be subject to a satisfactory medical report by a practitioner approved by the Solomon Islands Government, the result of certain other enquiries, and to your entering into the contract referred to in paragraph 3.
2. The terms and conditions would be as set out in this letter and the enclosed memorandum. It is emphasised that you might be required to serve in ang part of the Territory and undertake suitable duties as directed by the Government of Hong Kong.
3. The contract which you would be required to enter into would be with the Government of Hong Kong. It is stressed that the British Government would have no contractual obligation to you.
4.
You would enter the service at the bottom of the rank of Administrative Officer so far as seniority is concerned, but in view of your previous experience, you would enter at point 9 of the twelve point salary scale (ie at HK$7,645 per month at the current scale). The salary is liable to local tax deductions.
5. Although you are at present a designated officer under the Overseas Service Add Scheme, you would not be so designated while serving in Hong Kong, as the Scheme has not been applied to that Territory. Should the Scheme be so applied at some future date however, consideration would be given to the question of your eligibility for designation in accordance with the rules applicable to the Territory.
6. Provision exists in the present laws of Hong Kong for the grant of benefits to or in respect of officers who are injured or killed on duty in circumstances attributable to the nature of their duty and not to their own default. You are advised to obtain details of this provision on your arrival in Hong Kong.
