We spoke about Sir Denys Roberts' letter of 26 August to the Chief Clerk asking for help in identifying Home Civil Service candidates for the post of Attorney General, Hong Kong.

You thought an informal approach to Sir Basil Hall might be the best way to start the ball rolling and kindly agreed to write to him.

2. I attach a draft. The job description is not as full as I would wish, but it is the best we have been able to do with the papers we have. I could ask Hong Kong to telegraph something more detailed if you think it necessary.

3. I should be grateful if you would let me have the papers back once you have written to Sir B Hall. I will then draft an interim reply for Mr Forster to send to Sir D Roberts.
