1. You asked for a statement on the maintenance of Government Houses and Governors' leave passages for the OAG's Conference 1979.
MAINTENANCE OF GOVERNMENT HOUSES
The present position is as set out in Mr McLaren's letter of 23 November to certain OAGS (copy attached). We hope that OAGs will be able to proceed as suggested therein with DevDiv's assistance where necessary.
LEAVE PASSAGES ETC
We do not yet have replies from all the OAGS to whom Mr Quantrill's letter of 3 October was addressed (copy attached). However, from those replies already received, it is apparent that for the FCO to take on mid-tour leave
journey expenses would be a popular move. We shall need to do some estimates of the cost of this before putting a case to the Civil Service Department and the Treasury, but this is not an expensive plan and should find acceptance.
other One or two OAGS have raised points which we shall have to consider carefully and some of the DS officers have raised matters which relate to their FCO paid allowances. The latter have been put to Personnel Services Department for their views and action as necessary.
